PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel supporting bearing unit for suppressing an abrupt reduction of a bearing life by preventing the fall-off of a cap which closes an axial inner end opening of an outer ring.SOLUTION: A cap 5a having a through-hole 22 passing through a cylindrical part 20 in the radial direction is fitted and fixed into the inner-end inner peripheral face of an outer ring 1. During assembly, the outer-diameter-side opening of the through-hole 22 is sealed by the inner peripheral face of the outer ring 1. When a temperature in an internal space 11 rises and an inner pressure rises, the cap 5a receiving the pressure is moved to the axial inside. Then, when the outer-diameter-side opening of the through-hole 22 arrives at the further axial inside than the inner-end end face of the outer ring 1, the sealing state that the inner peripheral face (a sealing member) of the outer ring 1 seals the outer-diameter-side opening of the through-hole 22 is released into the state that the internal space 11 and an external space are communicated with each other by the through-hole 22.

    【課題】外輪の軸方向内端開口を塞ぐキャップの脱落を防止して、軸受寿命の急激な低下を抑制した車輪支持用軸受ユニットを提供する。【解決手段】径方向に円筒部20を貫通する貫通孔22が形成されたキャップ5aが、外輪1の内端部内周面に嵌合固定され、組立時においては、貫通孔22の外径側開口は外輪1の内周面により密封されている。内部空間11の温度が上昇して内圧が上昇すると、圧力を受けるキャップ5aが軸方向内側に移動して、貫通孔22の外径側開口が外輪1の内端部端面よりも軸方向内側に達すると、貫通孔22の外径側開口を密封していた外輪1の内周面(封止部材)による密封状態が解除され、貫通孔22により内部空間11と外部空間とが連通した状態となる。【選択図】図1
