PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device for a rolling stock and abnormality detection method for a rolling stock that can securely detect meander motion of a wheel or a bogie.SOLUTION: One aspect of this invention relates to an abnormality detection device for a rolling stock 1 that has a sensor part 14 for measuring vibration accelerations of the rolling stock 1, a sampling part 16 for sampling signals of a measured vibration acceleration, and an arithmetic logical unit 18 for determining whether an abnormality rises. The arithmetic logical unit 18 calculates a single-axis meander motion wavelength S1 that is meander cycle in the meander motion of a wheel 22 and sets a monitoring frequency region of single-axis meander motion on the basis of the calculated single-axis meander motion wavelength S1 to determine whether the meander motion of a wheel 22 by extracting components of a spacial frequency in the monitoring frequency region of single-axis meander motion from signals of the vibration accelerations.
