PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately suppress generation of PM even when the temperature of an internal combustion engine 10 is low.SOLUTION: A control device 50 retards the valve opening timing of an intake valve 16 to retard the valve closing timing, and thereby makes an expansion ratio higher than a compression ratio. Also, the control device 50 performs retardation control to ignition timing in a case where a temperature Tc of a catalyst 32 is low. The control device 50 stops retardation control to ignition timing at the time when the catalyst 32 is partially activated. At this time, the control device 50 advances the valve opening timing of the intake valve 16 to retard the valve opening timing of an exhaust valve 26.

    【課題】内燃機関10の温度が低いときであっても、PMの生成を好適に抑制する。【解決手段】制御装置50は、吸気バルブ16の開弁タイミングを遅角させることで、閉弁タイミングを遅角させ、膨張比を圧縮比よりも高くする。また、制御装置50は、触媒32の温度Tcが低い場合には、点火時期を遅角制御する。制御装置50は、触媒32が部分的に活性化した時点で、点火時期の遅角制御を停止する。この際、制御装置50は、吸気バルブ16の開弁タイミングを進角させ、排気バルブ26の開弁タイミングを遅角させる。【選択図】図1
