PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position acquisition device and an operation method of an underwater vehicle and the position acquisition device which can reduce operation cost and allow the underwater vehicle to reach a goal point reliably.SOLUTION: A position acquisition device 20 comprises: a GPS antenna 36; a GPS receiver; an acoustic communication modem 41; a buoyancy body 42; a communication buoy 21 which can be recovered to the underwater vehicle by a cable 63; and a body part 22 having the acoustic communication modem mounted on the underwater vehicle. Present position information of the communication buoy 21 is acquired by the GPS antenna 36 and the GPS receiver. The communication of information regarding the present position information of the communication buoy 21 is performed between the acoustic communication modem 41 and another acoustic communication modem to acquire the position of the underwater vehicle.
