The invention provides methods and systems for combining tracks of objects identified by a vehicle 102. The method comprises: detecting first 515 and second 525 track segments; determining a stitching score between the first and second track segments; and, in response to the stitching score satisfying a threshold, combining the first and second track segments to form a single track segment representative of an object exterior to a vehicle. The stitching score may be based on track features derived from track trajectory (710,Fig.7), point cloud data (720,Fig.7) and image features (730,Fig.7). The methods may employ track cleaning of tracks using a machine learning model based on neural networks. Claims are also included for generating a training data set by dividing a known single track, and for subsequently training a machine learning model. The invention could find application in autonomous vehicles (AV) where segmented tracks from the same road users and false tracks 545 can cause AVs to make incorrect navigation decisions.
