A landing system 700 for landing an aerial vehicle 200 at a target location 702, the landing system comprising a processor assembly 710 configured to receive information related to variation in vertical displacement of the target location over time, determine a downward heave phase of the target location based on the revived information, and control the aerial vehicle to land at the target location during the downward heave phase. The landing system may comprise a transmitter at the target location for transmitting information related to a variation in vertical displacement of the target location over time, and the aerial vehicle comprises a receiver for receiving the information. The transmitter may be an infra-red transmitter, radio frequency transmitter, or GPS transmitter. The target location may be a vehicle, such as a marine vessel. The aerial vehicle may be an unmanned aerial vehicle. There is also disclosed a method of landing an aerial vehicle.
