Aspects of the present invention relate to a retention device 100 for retaining a vehicle tool kit within a spare wheel of a vehicle, to a vehicle tool system, to a vehicle and to a method. The retention device 100 comprises a vacuum-formed plastic insert 110, wherein the plastic insert comprises a plastic sheet moulded to define a contoured recess 120, the contoured recess being configured to receive one or more tools, such as a jack, of the vehicle tool kit, and where a perimeter of the plastic insert is dimensioned to be received within the spare wheel of the vehicle. The insert may be formed from polypropylene, and an inner surface 111 may comprise a flocked surface. A housing (400, figures 4A,B) may be provided which is dimensioned to fit within the spare wheel, and wherein the housing is configured to contain the plastic insert and tool kit.
