An electrical socket comprises a base member 210 and a housing (figure 4, 400) which can be selectively engaged and disengaged by hand. The socket comprises a first connection mechanism comprising a first set of co-operable coupling members (figure 4, 420) (figure 3, 230) provided on the housing (figure 4, 400) and the base member 210. A second connection mechanism of the socket comprises a second set of co-operable coupling members (figure 5, 520) (figure 2, 240) provided at the housing (figure 4, 400) and the base member 210. The housing (figure 4, 400) and the base member 210 may be engaged by bringing them into contact in a first alignment position and rotating them with respect to each other in a first rotational direction such that the first and second connection mechanisms are engaged to securely hold the base member 210 and the housing (figure 4, 400) together. A corresponding method of engaging and disengaging the base member 210 and housing (figure 4, 400) is disclosed. The housing (figure 4, 400) may comprise an electric vehicle charging socket (figure 8A, 810).
