A geo-tag vehicle connector 38 for a motor vehicle 12 that is, at least in part, electrically operated (e.g. EV, HEV, BEV, PHEV), comprises at least one connecting unit 36 for connecting to a charging socket 16 of the vehicle. The connector includes a geolocation module 10 comprising a global positioning system (GPS) tracker module 22 for determining a current position of the vehicle connector 38. A cable 20 may attach the connector to a charging station 18. The geolocation module may include a communication module 24 for transmitting the current position of the connector to a computing device 26 external to the connector. The connector may be configured to determine the geolocation if a downtime event (e.g. loss of power grid, maintenance, vandalism, theft) is determined by the geolocation module. During the downtime event, a disabling signal and/or a diagnostic signal may be determined by the geolocation module, wherein the disabling signal and/or diagnostic signal may be a voltage value (e.g. 0V for the downtime event). The connector may include a rechargeable power source 28 for powering the geolocation module, wherein the power source may receive energy from the disabling signal/diagnostic signal 30 or an optional power connection 32.
