A vehicle 100 comprising a control device 106 including one or more processors 102 that receive sensor data 104 comprising data of an object 130 on an adjacent second lane 120. Control instructions to control the speed of the vehicle are generated using the determined speed of the object on the second, such that relative movement of the vehicle 100 with respect to the object results in free space on the second lane for the vehicle 100 to move from the first lane 110 to the second lane. The object may be a second or additional vehicle and controlling the speed of the vehicle may be to increase or decrease the speed of the vehicle to create a free space or gap for the vehicle to move into. Sensor data may also comprise the distance to an object 140 in the first lane which may cause the vehicle to soft or hard brake according to threshold values for distance to the object and gap size in the adjacent lane.
