An electric vehicle, such as an aircraft (10, Fig 1) having an electric propulsion system (400, Fig 4) comprises battery packs such as battery pack (20, Fig 5A) comprising a plurality of cells (200) housed within a casing (24). Casing (24) comprising an outer metal layer (61) bonded to an inner composite layer (62). Metal layer (61) may be a metal alloy such as an aluminium alloy. Inner composite layer (62) comprising a honeycomb core (63) sandwiched between first and second glass fibre 10 sheets (64, 65). Core (63) may be a cork-based material, or a foamed material and honeycomb components may be formed from a plurality of resin impregnated aramid fibre sheets. Fibre glass sheets 64, 65 may be resin impregnated woven glass fibre, with a Furan-based resin or a perfluoroalkoxy resin. An associated method of manufacture utilising vacuum and curing processes is also disclosed.
