The apparatus has a sleeve 250 with a plurality of arms 260, at least one of which is flexible. The arms define a channel (212 fig.12) and are configured for insertion into a hole 212 having first and second portions (220, 230 fig.10) where the first part is narrower than the second part and the hole has an abutment surface 216 extending radially outwards between the two portions. The distal ends of the arms (162 fig.2) are positioned at least partially in the second part. A male part 170, for insertion into the channel of the sleeve, has a distal stop (172 fig.4) that engages with the distal ends of the arms. On removal of the male part the arms of the sleeve are constrained by the walls of the hole thus preventing removal. The hole may be formed using a mould, perhaps in a concrete slab, or a female part (110 fig.1) may be used. The male part may be threaded (192 fig.4) facilitating lifting or pulling.
