A method of determining a steering angle of an aircraft landing gear 10, the method comprises: obtaining an input image of the aircraft landing gear 10; comparing the input image against a plurality of reference images having known steering angles; determining the most similar reference image; and determining the steering angle based on the most similar reference image. Comparing the input image to the reference images may comprise comparing respective pixel values and/or calculating the root mean square deviation between the pixel values. The comparison may be performed on a region of interest which contains a component (e.g. the tread 14 of a tyre 11 or a torque link [13, fig. 3]) of the aircraft landing gear 10. Also disclosed are: an aircraft controller configure to perform the above steps; and a system for determining a steering angle having an imaging device 15 and the above controller.
