A modular kerb (curb) assembly 100 for charging electric vehicles (EVs) includes: a body (kerb base unit 102) with a recessed portion forming an internal cavity 128; a charging unit 104 for receiving an electrical power supply (provided by electrical distribution network 136); a socket 130 housed within the recessed portion and electrically connected to the charging unit; and a closable aperture 142 formed on an uppermost face of the modular kerb for providing access to the socket. The charging unit regulates the electrical power supplied to the socket and may be housed within the recessed portion and enclosed by a water-resistant casing. A metal casing 124 may be secured to a top wall 120 of the body. A Quick Response “QR” code 148, identifying the kerb assembly, may be located on an upper surface of the metal casing. The kerb assembly may include a network device to establish communication with a server, based on the QR code. The socket may include a pivotally mounted lid 140 to open/close the aperture and may include an electronically actuated locking means (e.g. solenoid latch). A drive arrangement may open and close the lid in response to instructions received from the network device.
