An elongate foil, selected from a hydrofoil and an aerofoil, comprising a body comprised of laminated plies of fibre-reinforced resin matrix composite material, wherein the body has a central internal surface 60 extending between opposite longitudinal ends of the foil, curved along its length, and first and second side parts defining respective opposite foil surfaces are bonded together. Each side part comprises a laminated stack of plies 50 of fibrous reinforcement, whereby each foil surface has double curved contour profiles, along length and transverse thereto, being formed by varying the number of plies of fibrous reinforcement at positions along the respective contour profile. A method of manufacturing an elongate foil comprises providing an elongate moulding tool, curved along its length; sequentially positioning preform layers to build up a first shaped side part 156 having first and second contour profiles formed by varying the number of preforms layers at positions; curing and removing the first part from the mould surface and sequentially positioning preform layers on an inner surface of the first part to form the second shaped body 84, curing to form a elongate unitary body.
