An arm restraint assembly 112 for an ejection seat 14 has a first cable portion 116a attached to a primary arm (fig.2A,130) and configured to rotate the arm about a pivot joint (fig.2A,134). An attenuator 120 is also attached to the first cable portion and has a plunger 202 with a head 220 located inside a housing 200, biased towards a first end 210 of the housing. Also claimed is an attenuator 120, suitable for an aircraft cable, having a housing with a second end, and a first end 210 with a cable opening 214 having a first portion (fig.5d,214a) with a first diameter and a second portion (fig.5d,214b) with a smaller diameter, and a plunger having a head 220 located in the housing and biased towards the first end, and a shaft 222 extending from the head. The attenuator may allow the tension in the aircraft cable and/or load applied by the cable to the arm restraint to increase gradually or in a linear manner and reduce the occurrence of load spikes.
