A method of raising or lowering a boiler for wall installation or removal comprises the steps of: mounting a hoisting device 10 within a flue hole 18 that extends through a wall 20, the body of the device extending beyond the distal end of the flue hole and having a strap 36 extending from the proximal end of the body, connecting the strap to a boiler, and raising or lowering the boiler with the hoist. A displaceable flap, pin or projection positioned at or adjacent to the distal end 28 of the device may have an unlocked state wherein the projection lies adjacent to the device, and a locked state wherein the projection is away from the device. An elongate extension arm (66, Figure 8) comprising a locking mechanism may be slidably extendable within the flue hole, and with space within to receive the hoisting device, the elongate body being extendable to a position beyond the interior surface of the wall. Hinged side arms (78, Figure 9) at the proximal end of the device may guide the strap away from the centre line of the device.
