A propulsion system for an aircraft propeller 17 comprising a rotatable shaft for mechanical power transmission, electrical connections (4-6, figure 2) at an aircraft end of the shaft for connection to first and second terminals (7, 8) of an electrical power source (10); propeller end electrical connections 12, 16 at a propeller end of the shaft for connection to first and second terminals 14, 15 for supplying electrical power to electrical components 21, 22 (e.g. hearing elements) on the propeller; and a mechanical coupling 12, 13, 16 at the propeller end of the shaft for mounting the propeller. Inner 2 and outer 1 electrical conductors extend along the shaft length. An electrical insulator 3 extends along the shaft between the inner and outer conductors. The aircraft may be an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or an urban mobility aircraft (UAM). The rotatable shaft may transmit sensor data for a deicing system.
