A lidar sensor assembly 1 comprises upper 2 and lower 3 lidar sensors, both comprising rotating emitters and photodetectors. The upper sensor unit is arranged coaxially above the lower sensor unit, on a vertical axis. A mount or adaptor 9 for mounting the lidar sensor assembly on a vehicle roof (10, Fig. 9) has a base for attachment to the vehicle roof, mounting arrangements (18, 8 Fig. 2) for the upper and lower lidar sensor units and optionally, peripheral sensor retainers 19. The mounting arrangement may comprise upper and lower lidar sensor unit supports, and at least one vertical stanchion 7, which may be at the back of the mount. The stanchion(s) may be thief proofed. The mount may comprise an adaptor shaped to conform to a vehicle roof, and cable management in the stanchions. The vehicle (11, Fig. 9) may be an autonomous vehicle.
