A charging station 10 includes a plurality of bays 90 for receiving electric vehicles (EV) to be recharged. The charging station includes a galvanometric isolation transformer 30 whose primary winding is coupled to an electricity grid 20, and whose secondary winding is coupled via an AC-to-DC converter 40 to an energy storage arrangement 60 and to inputs of a plurality of DC-to-DC converters 70. The energy storage arrangement is configured to buffer an energy flow from the transformer. DC outputs 85 of the DC-to-DC converters are coupled via a switching arrangement 80 to the plurality of bays. The switching arrangement is configured to couple selectively the DC outputs directly together to enable charging capacities of the bays to be individually adjusted when in use. The charging station also includes a data processing arrangement 100 for managing its operation. The switching arrangement could allocate more converters to high priority vehicles, or vehicles which have newly arrived at a bay.
