Vehicle which determines a terrain mode 630 of the vehicle, based on the terrain mode selects a relationship between torque and speed, and if creep mode is on (610), the drive torque is modulated according to the selected relationship (see figures 4,5). The vehicle may determine a target speed for creeping and maintaining the target speed with torque below the limit of the selected relationship to prevent wheel spin. The vehicle may also be accelerated from stationary to and maintained at the target speed. If the user’s torque demand exceeds the threshold of the selected relationship, the vehicle terminates creep mode and delivers the torque required. Creep mode may be reinstated once the vehicle speed and torque demand fall below threshold. The torque for each wheel may be controlled independently, and braking torque may be applied through an electric traction motor to maintain speed downhill.
