A door look turning mechanism for a latch of lift shaft escape door comprises a selectively functional spindle 14 and an activator 16, therefore. The spindle has a lateral stepped surface defining an annular shoulder provided between and first 18, lift shaft, and second 20, non-lift shaft, end. The shoulder includes a laterally extending ridge 30. The activator includes a sleeve fitting over the second end of the spindle and an engagement member 34 for aligning over the shoulder. The activator has a pressed-in and default state, in the default state the activator can spin around the spindle without the engagement member engaging the ridge. In the pressed in state the activator can spin around the spindle only until the engagement members contact the ridge where the activator and spindle are rotationally linked. The engagement member may be a grub-screw extending radially inwards from the sleeve. The activator may have a through-hole extending through the sleeve to a distal end of the activator, the spindle may have a keyed end 54 accessible through said hole. Also disclosed is a locking mechanism for a door or hatch with a selectively functional spindle 14 and an activator 16, therefore.
