A flight jacket (fig.1,2) has a pair of sleeves 6,8 attached to a body (fig.1,4), a restraint cord 12 is mounted on each sleeve extending between shoulder and wrist positions. An interface member 14 is mounted on the cord, for attaching to a restraint tether 20 of an ejection seat in use; when the interface member is in the shoulder position the cord is enclosed in an elongate enclosure 16 having a fastener 18 along its extent, the fastener can tear open to deploy the cord from the enclosure when force is applied to the interface member by the tether, the interface member sliding along the cord towards the wrist position. The fastener may be a zip with a burst section (fig.11,30) at/adjacent the shoulder position where zip teeth do not interlock forming a weak region permitting the interface member to pass and separate interlocked teeth of the zip during ejection. Preferably, the cord is secured to reinforced sections at the wrist (fig.6,22) and shoulder (fig.3,24); the shoulder reinforcements may extend across the back of the jacket, formed two parts attached to the back of the jacket body, and each other, with hook and loop fasteners.
