A pin assembly for insertion into a pin joint 4 of an aircraft landing gear (2 Fig. 1) includes a lubrication device 12 which has a reservoir 18 for storing a lubricant and a piston 22 mounted for reciprocal movement within the reservoir. The piston divides the reservoir into a first chamber 19a and a second chamber 19b, and a bi-directional flow path (32a, 34a, 32b, 34b Fig. 3) between the first and second chambers 19a, 19b and the surface to be lubricated (33, 37 Fig. 3) delivers lubricant when the piston is reciprocated. The piston can be reciprocated by rotation of a threaded shaft 20 connected to the piston, and the threaded shaft can be rotated via a drive arm 30 which may include a ratchet arrangement. In use, during extension and/or retraction of the landing gear the drive arm and ratchet arrangement may operate to reciprocate the piston and expel lubricant, such as grease from the lubricant reservoir. The reservoir may be refillable, for example via a grease nipple (39 Fig. 3), or may be filled with a replaceable cartridge (12 Fig. 5). The pin assembly can include an indicator system to indicate the number of lubrication cycles, for example a visual indicator. The arrangement provides self-lubrication of the pin joint.
