An apparatus includes an outlet configured to output hot air 17, a flow control device 20 movable between a first position and a second position, and a phase change actuator 24a, 24b. The phase change actuator is connected to the flow control device and configured to move the flow control device between the first position and the second position at a predetermined temperature where a change of phase of a working substance of the phase change actuator occurs. In the second position, the flow control device may be configured to interact with an airflow and/or the hot air to protect a structure, such as a wing leading edge, downstream of the outlet from overheating. The flow control device may comprise vortex generators 21a, 21b. In the second position, the vortex generators may be configured to interact with an airflow and/or the hot air from the outlet so as to redirect and/or reduce the temperature of the hot air. The outlet may be from an engine precooler exhaust 15 situated on an engine pylon 10.
