A remote powered bus system 1 in a motor vehicle 2 is disclosed, comprising a master electronic control unit 3 and slave electronic control unit 4. The system is characterized in that the slave unit comprises a wake-up output port 12, connected to a wake-up input port 13 of the master unit. The master unit is configured to receive the wake-up signal 15 at the wake-up input port, and to provide a remote ground potential 16 to the slave unit at a ground output port 10 upon the reception of the wake-up signal 15 to set the slave unit to an active state. The system is further characterized in that the slave unit comprises at least one switching device 17 comprising a first status output port 18 connected to a status input port 19 of a processing unit 20 of the slave unit and a second status output port connected to a wake-up port 12 of the slave unit wherein the switching device is configured to provide both the wake-up signal at the second status output port 21 and a status signal at the first status output port 18 upon activation of an activation switch of the switching device.
