A battery mounting arrangement 101 for a vehicle comprising first and second supporting structures 102, 103 and at least one battery cell container 104 supported by the supporting structures, the at least one battery cell container having a first and second end face 107, 108 facing the first and second supporting structures respectively. The stiffness of the at least one battery cell container compared to the second supporting structure is sufficiently large to enable deformation of the second support structure under a force provided by the at least one battery cell container due to a force applied to the first end face. Preferably, the stiffness of the container compared to the first supporting structure is sufficient to enable deformation by compression of the first structure between an applied force and a reaction force provided by the container. A second independent claim discloses a battery mounting arrangement for a vehicle comprising first and second supporting structures, and a plurality of tubes extending laterally across the vehicle having end faces adjacent to the first and second supporting structures. Battery cells are located within the tubes.
