Provided is a composite crush can 900 with a structure 902, which is made of fibre-reinforced material, moulded integrally with the interior of the crush can 900. Also provided is a method of making the crush can (1000, Fig. 11), which involves inserting the fibre-reinforced material (1008, Fig. 11) into the hollow crush can (1000, Fig. 11), and then moulding the material (1008, Fig. 11) using the interior of the can (1000, Fig. 11) as an outer shell of a split mould. Using the crush can (1000, Fig. 11) as a mould shell may reduce the need for additional moulding components; and moulding the internal structure 902 to the crush can (1000, Fig. 11) may reduce the need for adhesives/screws. Also provided is an assembly comprising a bumper (1602, Fig. 16) attached to the crush can (1400, Fig. 16), the crush can (1400, Fig. 16) having frangible and non-frangible portions.
