A method of configuring a tyre monitoring device (e.g. a tyre-mounted sensor of a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for an aircraft). The sensor (10; fig. 1) receives a request to enter a configuration mode 904 using a first wireless communication protocol, e.g. from a configuration device (14; fig. 1) or control device (12; fig.1) using a long-range wireless communication protocol such as Wi-Fi ®. The sensor then initiates communication using a second wireless communication protocol 906, e.g. with the other of the two devices via a short-range radio frequency (RFID) or near field communication (NFC). Once successful communication using the second protocol is established 908, the sensor enters the configuration mode 910, in which it may receive configuration data or instructions for data download, testing or fault reset using the first protocol. The sensor may only enter configuration mode if communication using the first protocol is with a trusted (authenticated) device. In the configuration mode the sensor may control communication using the first protocol. The sensor may remain in the configuration mode for a predetermined time period. Also claimed is a tyre monitoring device including two wireless communication interfaces, e.g. transceivers which communicate using different protocols.
