An apparatus and method 200 for establishing air data. The method comprising progressing 202 an aircraft 10 while a processing module 50 receives speed data 204 from at least one sensor 22, 22b. The processing module determines an actual airspeed of the aircraft 10 based on the speed data. The processing model receives real-time airspeed data for comparison 210 to the actual airspeed. The comparison 210 can automatically initiate a countermeasure 212. The speed data may be determined through the aircraft wheels or through a global positioning system. The countermeasure may comprise an alert to the pilot of the aircraft or the initiation of automatically rejecting take-off of the aircraft. Weather data may also be used as part of the comparison including headwind and tailwind data and runway condition data.
