An insulation assembly for an outlet conduit of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system (100, fig 2) includes an insulation subassembly (302, fig 4), including an insulation panel (304, fig 4), and a sensor insert 324. The sensor insert interfaces with the insulation panel and the outlet conduit. The sensor insert includes an insulation layer encapsulated by a shell 500. The shell includes a shell exterior wall 502 and a shell interior wall (524, fig 13). A through hole (sensor insert aperture) 503 extends through the sensor insert, including through the shell exterior wall, the insulation layer, and the shell interior wall, the through hole being configured to receive a portion of a NOx sensor. A coupler base (542, fig 13) contiguous with the shell interior wall extends away from the shell interior wall and towards the shell exterior wall. A tongue (544, fig 13) extends away from the coupler base, and a lip (552, fig 13) extends away from the tongue.
