An aerodynamic structure 310 for an aircraft wing upper surface 320. A slat is operable between being stowed in and extending out of a slat recess. When deployed, a slat recess end face 340 is exposed. The end face 340 intersects with the wing upper surface 320 at a recess edge 330. The aerodynamic structure 310, adjacent to the recess edge 330, has a volume shaped to encourage air flowing over the recess edge 330 onto the upper surface 320, remaining attached. The aerodynamic device may energise the downstream boundary layer, improve lift, delay stall, prevent cross-flow detaching, minimise local flow separation and reduce boundary layer degradation. The structure shape may be elongate, tapering, asymmetrical, teardrop, bulbous, semi-circular, globular. The structure may smooth, round, or straight-edged to blunt a sharp recess edge. The structure may have a trapezium or curved cross-sectional profile. The structure may cause and/or augment vortex generation. The structure may be integral with, or retrofitted to a wing. The aerodynamic device may be mounted at wing root, wing pylon (figure 6), wing tip (figure 5) regions, or structural discontinuities near flaps, cut-outs and slots.
