The invention refers to an actuator mechanism for a rear view device (100, figure 1) which includes a first cam surface 200 which is positioned on or is part of a rear view element or rear view element mount of the device, a first cam lever 130 configured to move on the cam surface, a first actuator 135 configured to rotate the cam lever, where rotating the cam lever in one direction causes the element/mount to move in one manner, and rotating the cam lever in an opposite direction causes the element/mount to a move in a different manner. The actuator mechanism may include a second cam surface 210 and a corresponding second cam lever 140 and a second actuator 145. The cam surfaces may have high (202, 212 figure 3) and low points (201, 211) between which first and second contact followers 132, 142 may move to move the element/mount between its extreme positions (figures 7 to 10). The actuators may comprise a piezoelectric actuator, one or more shape memory alloy springs, and/or a motor and gear. The element/mount may have attached to it a mirror and/or camera, and the device may be mounted on a vehicle.
