A centrifugal impeller assembly comprising blades 206 extending between an upper 207 and lower 208 shroud, where the shrouds define an inlet 209 and an outlet 210 with the ratio of the inlet opening area to the outlet opening area being 0.74 to 1.06. The ration may be at least 0.78 and less than 0.96. Preferably the range is between 0.79 and 0.89, the inlet opening area is in the range of 80-114 and the outer diameter is between 17 and 19cm. The blades may be integrally formed with the upper and lower shroud and the blades may consist of nine full blades and nine splitter blades. A centrifugal compressor and a vehicle comprising the compressor as part of the ventilation system is also claimed. The compressor may act as a blower to draw fresh air from the exterior of the vehicle.
