An aircraft braking system controls braking to a first function 406 over a threshold speed and to a second function 408 under the threshold speed. This preferably allows the brake wear and/or thermal oxidation to be harmonised at taxiing speeds, to maximise brake life. A braking system characterised by controlling brake application based on its thermal oxidation state compared to respective thermal oxidation states of other brakes, is also disclosed. Additionally a braking system characterised by controlling brake application based on predictive cool time compared to respective predictive cool times of other brakes, is further disclosed.
