The invention relates to a rear view device for a motor vehicle, comprising a mirror base, which is mountable on the vehicle and which supports a mirror head with a housing, the mirror head being movable relative to the mirror base by means of at least one power-fold unit (14, figure 2), and a support plate 10 for providing a mounting area 12 for the power-fold unit characterised in that: the mounting area is provided by a first receptacle 20 for a motor part (16) of the power-fold unit and/or a second receptacle 22 for a transmission or gear part (18) of the power-fold unit, with either or both of the receptacles comprising at least one foamed polymer part; and/or that the power-fold unit comprises a first housing part (32) of the motor part and/or a second housing part (34) of the transmission or gear part, with either or both housing parts comprising at least one foamed polymer part. A vehicle with such a rear view mirror arrangement is also claimed.
