A charging apparatus for a vehicle 17 (e.g. EV, HEV, BEV, PEV, PHEV) includes a terminal 1 connected to at least one roadside or kerbside box 9, the terminal providing power and data connections to the box via respective cables 4, 5. The box connects with the vehicle to provide power to charge the vehicle and receive data from the vehicle. The box may include connectivity to an inductive charging unit 12. The power and data cables are terminated in the kerbside box with a universal connector, which allows a standardised connection to a charger unit 13 (e.g. charging post). Each box is installed flush to an adjoining surface (e.g. curb, kerb) to a parking bay. When the kerbside box is not in use with the charger unit, a solid lid 11 sits at the finished level to prevent a pedestrian hazard. The charger unit may be exchanged with other charging units and allows the kerbside box to be installed in advance of the charger unit. The data cable may also be connected to a data Access Point (AP) 15, which provides a high-speed Wi-Fi connection to: the vehicle, persons within proximity of the AP signal; and to an adjoining house or dwelling 18.
