A dimension parameter indicative of a shock absorber extension of an aircraft landing gears is set by: identifying range values for operating characteristics of the shock absorber (302); identifying the probability distribution of values of the operating characteristics within the identified ranges (304); generate a plurality of values of the dimension by repeatedly inputting into a computer-implemented model a selected value of each of the operating characteristics based on the probability distributions (306) and determining a given value of the shock absorber dimension (308); set the dimension parameter based on the generated dimension values (312). Setting the parameter may involve Monte Carlo simulation and setting a minimum value. The model comprises variation of the dimension with load. Operating characteristics comprise aircraft mass and centre of gravity, temperature, liquid loss from the shock absorber and a gas absorption factor. Used in relation to H-dimension and H-label of landing gear for servicing.
