Mechanical flapping wings (ornithopter) that can be used by a human to fly like a bird. A frame 1 provides a support structure for the four electric motors 9, battery unit 10 and harness 12 which secures the person in place. The wings are attached to the frame and comprise a rigid support structure 2, preferably made from carbon or glass fibre, and a skin 3. Flexible joints 4 allow wing movement and connect the wings to the frame, and cables 5 also connect the wings to the frame. Cables 6 and quick link connectors 7 are attached to the wings and to winch reels 8 which are driven by the motors. Joystick type handles 11 allow the pilot to control the motors.
