The apparatus comprises an electrically powered medical device 16 sealed within a pressure-resistant housing 10, the housing having at least one externally operable pusher 24 extending into the housing in alignment with an operating button of the device. The pusher element is biased against the external gas pressure acting upon the housing to prevent inadvertent pressing of the operating button as the pressure increases. The housing may comprise two clamped shells 12, 14 and a sealing gasket 58. The housing may have a window 28 through which the device may be viewed. The housing may have signal input, electrical output 38 or an audio relay 42 to convey audio signals from the device within the housing to a speaker outside. The medical device may be a defibrillator and the output may connect to defibrillator pads (96, fig 5).
