An inductive charging arrangement 100 for charging a battery unit 106 of an electric vehicle (e.g. EV, HEV, BEV, PHEV) includes a magnetic coupling coil arrangement 102 mounted on a side region of the electric vehicle and an external coil arrangement 104 mounted on a curb (kerb) along a roadway. In operation, the magnetic coupling coil arrangement provides charge to the battery unit. The external coil arrangement is configured to operatively couple to the magnetic coupling coil arrangement such that power is inductively coupled between the coils for charging the battery unit. The side region of the vehicle may be a door of the vehicle or an elongate member adjacent to the door. The external coil arrangement may include an adapter 202 that receives a power supply cable 210 from one or more power supply sources 208 (e.g. a lamp post or street electrical enclosure, such as an electrical cabinet). At least one charging module 204, 206, associated with at least one charging output, may be operatively and detachably coupled to the adapter. The charging output may be based upon a charging requirement of the battery unit.
