A method for removing off-gassed materials and associated odors like new car smell from a vehicle 20 having the following steps; detecting a condition for removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a vehicle based on a first location of the vehicle and weather data, determining that a first level of VOCs is greater than a predetermined level, selecting a second location to expedite removal of the VOCs and navigating the vehicle to the second location. The condition for removing VOCs may involve the intensity of sunlight or distance from the first location, and the method may also include steps of opening windows 30, or activating the heater 32, fans 38 or engine 40 of the vehicle. The method may involve estimating a second level of VOCs to indicate the level of VOCs in the interior 24 of the vehicle after the removal operation is complete. A computer 22 capable of operating the method of removing VOCs is also disclosed, as is a vehicle that features the computer.
