An emergency door assembly that automatically deploys steps to exit the vehicle when it is opened. The assembly comprises an emergency exit door 100 with a door leaf 104 that is coupled via hinges 106 to the vehicle bodywork 102, a rotating step arrangement 116 is further connected to the lower portion 112 of the door leaf such that upon rotation of the door leaf about the hinges the steps are automatically deployed when the door is opened. The steps can fold out from a stowed position (fig. 2) in a stowage aperture space under the passenger seating area of the vehicle 108. Once in place, the steps can be held in place with a locking mechanism 124. The steps may also comprise a load bearing member 136 at the top rear which interacts with the bodywork for supporting the weight of passengers disembarking.
