A method including determining a trajectory 230 of a first vehicle 100 which may be determined by a predetermined route or driver intention such as use of a turn signal. Upon determining that a second vehicle 101a blocks the trajectory an instruction is sent to the second vehicle to adjust the second vehicle speed. The instruction is based on the trajectory of the first vehicle, a second vehicle location and speed which may be determined by first vehicle sensors. If the second vehicle accepts the instruction then it may speed up or down allowing either trajectory 230a or 230b to be chosen. The second vehicle may refuse the instruction to change speed and an alternative trajectory may be determined after sending instructions to other vehicles in the vicinity of the first vehicle. The second vehicle may decide to accept a change of speed instruction based on a time to collision TTC of the first vehicle.
