A buoyant mooring system 400 for use with a turbine 408 assembly is disclosed. The system comprises upstream and downstream anchoring points. Each anchoring point is connected by an anchoring line 432a,b to a respective buoy 434a,b with a plurality of tethers 436a connecting the buoy to the respective end of the turbine assembly. The turbine assembly may comprise a multi-hulled vessel with one tether per hull. The uses of floatation devices 434a,b as an intermediate point of the mooring system between the water bed and the assembly reduces the vertical component of the tension forces in the mooring lines. The mooring lines 436a make a small angle with the horizontal. This helps to counteract pitching forces typically generated by turbines.
