A host vehicle 200 configured to detect pass events performed by adjacent vehicles 203, i.e. vehicles occupying a lane aligned with the direction of the host (301a-c). Pass events include passed events (when the host vehicle is passed by an adjacent vehicle) and passing events (when the host vehicle passes an adjacent vehicle). The host vehicle counts passing vehicles, compares this to a determined pass history threshold and generates a display alert if the threshold is exceeded. In other embodiments the host vehicle writes a history of both passed and passing vehicle events. This pass history may be over a timespan determined based on a speed value. The passed and passing events may be weighted in importance based on the lane position of the vehicle relative to the host. An unusually high number of passed events versus passing events indicate that the host vehicle is impeding traffic. An unusually high number of passing events versus passed events indicate that the host vehicle is traveling excessively fast, characterised by excessive overtaking.
