A method for detecting a second vehicle 100b from a first vehicle 100a comprising: detecting infrared light in the first vehicle from an external source; determining that the infrared light was generated from a source 160 in the second vehicle 100b; detecting the second vehicle 100b based on both the detected infrared light and input from a first vehicle collision detection sensor 150, which may be a RADAR sensor. The method may also comprise determining the coordinates of the infrared light source 160 relative to the first vehicle and calculating a first trajectory of the infrared light coordinates and a second trajectory of object coordinates from the collision detection sensor. The infrared source 160 may be mounted to an exterior surface of the second vehicle 100b, such as inside headlight enclosures or front or rear sides of the second vehicle
