A device 1 for monitoring one or more vehicle passenger seats, comprising at least one sensor 2, 3 for monitoring an occupancy status for each of the seats and a communication interface 4 for receiving reservation conditions for each of the seats. The device displays occupancy and reservation conditions for each of the seats and determines the occupancy condition based on the occupancy status over a predefined time period. Optionally, the occupancy status and/or condition comprise occupied and vacant. The reservation condition may comprise reserved and unreserved. Optionally, occupancy indicators 5, 6 and reservation indicators 7, 8 display occupancy and reservation conditions when passengers are boarding and locating a seat. The occupancy status may be sensed by infra-red or ultra-sound sensors. The device may comprise an energy harvesting battery 12, converting vibrations or electromagnetic waves into electrical energy. A system is disclosed, comprising sensor(s) for monitoring occupancy status of one or more vehicle passenger seats, a first display unit displaying and determining an occupancy condition for each seat based on the occupancy status over a predefined time period, and a second display unit receiving and displaying reservation condition for each seat, wherein both display units are proximal to the seat(s).
