An apparatus for storing electrical energy includes: a battery of lithium-titanate (Li2TiO3) cells; a charging system for charging the battery; a discharging system for discharging the battery; a transportation system; and a scheduling system. The transportation system transports the battery between a first charging station 303, a first discharging station 301, a second charging station 304 and a second discharging station 302. The scheduling system schedules: a first charging procedure at the first charging station; a first discharging procedure at the first discharging station; a second charging procedure at the second charging station; and a second discharging procedure at the second discharging station within a twenty four hour period. The first charging station may supply off-peak electricity via a grid supply. The second charging station may supply electricity from a renewable source (e.g. wind turbine, solar panel) which is local to the charging station. The first discharge station may supply electricity to a static electricity consuming environment (e.g. a factory). The second discharge station may supply electricity to an electric vehicle (e.g. EV, HEV, BEV, PHEV). A method of storing electrical energy includes the steps of repeating a deep charging and discharging cycle of a lithium-titanate battery a plurality of times per day.
