An energy-absorbing device 30 includes a beam 32 having a plurality of lobes 34 attached to and positioned sequentially, and spaced apart, along the beam. The lobes are configured to contact adjacent lobes when deformed. Preferably, the lobes are tubular and have a first end 50, a second end 52, a side 56, and a bore 54. Each bore could be spaced from a longitudinal axis of the beam. The bores may be parallel to each other, and generally vertical. The lobes could be spaced from each other in an initial position, and contact each other when in a deformed position. Furthermore, the lobes may be formed from a strip having a plurality of corrugations. The energy absorbing device could be disposed between a vehicle bumper and a fascia, and supported by either the bumper beam or fascia.
